No New Friends!

Making new friends as an adult can be a challenging feat. I admit that in the past I have subscribed to the no new friends club. Why? I felt it was too much of a hassle, too much drama, too much time required. Now I'm thinking actually I was really just being selfish. I remember having a group of "friends" in elementary school and them telling me that they didn't want to be my friend anymore. I don't even remember why, but I remember running home to tell my mother about it. She always would tell us, me and my four older sisters, that we didn't need friends because we had each other. Shortly after my so called friends dumped me, the whole group got in trouble for something. I remember thinking, I'm glad they kicked me out of the crew when they did because I would have been in trouble too.  I took my mother's statement to heart. You don't need friends; you all have each other. Sometimes I would even feel guilty when developing close relationships ...

Getting Organized

Yesterday was a typical January Chicago snow storm, so I took full advantage of being snowed in by doing some house cleaning and a little decluttering. I also had been wanting to check out this show on Netflix called Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. I started up the show as I was doing my house cleaning and ended up binge watching the entire season. One of my goals for 2019 is to become more organized. I really want to get rid of all clothes I no longer wear, items that don't serve me any purpose and give a home to all items in my house. I was just going to start by scheduling to declutter a part of the house each weekend for the next month or two; however, Marie Kondo's Tidying Up using the KonMari Method, gave me a much more organized and systematic method to organizing my home. The steps are as follows: 1) Clothes 2) Books 3) Paper 4) Komono (Kitchen, Bathroom, Garage, Miscellaneous 5) Sentimental.  The homeowner starts by bringing all of their clothes to a central area...

Meal Planning

This past week I searched Pinterest looking for new recipes and healthier food options. There are so many diets to choose. Vegan, vegetarian, low carb. I guess it all depends on your goals. I need to lower my bad carb intake. My doctor recommended that I cut out anything white i.e. bread, sugar, pasta, etc.  During the month of December I fasted from breads, chips, cakes, and candy. Basically all  junk food. I did give myself three pass days, which included Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and one additional day for a party I attended.  I think this is something I will incorporate again because it's so easy to gain extra pounds during the Christmas holiday with the office parties and co-workers bring in treats throughout the month. Fasting  gave me a time to reset spiritually and focus on preparing goals for 2019. It also made me realize how much junk food I was consuming. If I stopped by the superstore I would grab a bag of chips. If I walked by the candy dish at ...

Is This 40?

It's the beginning of a new year and I started off with great intentions, but life happens.  I caught a cold on the third day of the year and have I have been resting for a few days trying to get better. I began with my goal preparations for 2019  in the middle of December.  I mean they are written down with action steps and timelines; however, I already feel like I'm trying to catch up.  This blog is an action step to one of my goals and although I am little behind schedule, and I am excited to begin the journey.  The reason I wanted to start a blog really was just to document some health and wellness goals I am working on.  You see, this year is a milestone birthday for me.  I turn the big 4 - 0.  When they said after 30 things start to go downhill,  I guess 40 is the beginning of being kicked off the cliff. Just joking, but forgive me because I went to the doctor more than a few times in 2018 and each time I was in shock.  Excuse me ...
